# Reachy Stage Chat — Presenter Run Sheet

One page. Do these in order before you go on.

## Before the show (5 minutes)

1. **Connect the mic.**
   - **Wireless robot, self-contained (easiest)**: plug the USB mic or the
wireless mic's receiver dongle straight into the robot's USB-C port
(USB-C→A adapter if needed). Skip to step 2 — the app runs from the
     dashboard, no computer setup.
   - **App on the computer**: USB-dongle wireless mic — plug the dongle into
the computer. Bluetooth mic — pair it in the computer's Bluetooth
settings and check it shows up as a sound **input** device.
2. **Connect Reachy Mini** to the Mac and open the **Reachy Mini desktop
app**. Wait until the robot is up.
3. **Launch the app**: double-click **`launch_stage_chat.command`**
(or start *Reachy Stage Chat* from the desktop app dashboard).
   - First ever run: macOS will ask for **Microphone permission** — click
Allow. (If you missed it: System Settings → Privacy & Security →
     Microphone → enable it.)
4. A browser tab opens with the settings page (`http://localhost:8042`).
   - **OpenAI key**: if the page says "No key yet", paste the OpenAI API key
and hit **Save key** (it's remembered for next time).
   - Pick your mic in the **Input device** dropdown (also remembered).
   - Speak into the mic: the **level meter must move and turn green** and say
"🟢 Mic is live". No green = wrong device selected or mic muted.
   - **Volume** defaults to 200%; drop it if Reachy distorts in the room.
   - Optional: tweak the **opening line** and **system prompt**. "Apply now"
= this show only; "Save for next launch" = permanent.
5. Reachy speaks his opening line when the app connects (re-trigger with
**🔊 Speak opening line** — handy for timing your walk-on).
6. **Test one exchange**: say "Hello Reachy" into the mic. Reachy should
answer through his own speaker, wobbling as he talks.

## During the show

- Speak normally into the handheld/lav mic. Hold a stage mic up to Reachy
when he answers if the room needs amplification — his mic input is muted
while he speaks, so feedback is handled.
- **Crowd Q&A**: turn on **Push-to-talk** on the settings page. Reachy then
only listens while you hold the big on-screen button (or the spacebar).

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Meter doesn't move | Wrong input device selected, mic muted, or macOS mic permission denied. |
| Mic not in the dropdown | Wait a few seconds — the list rescans automatically. Bluetooth headphones: macOS sometimes only exposes their mic once they're chosen as input — select them under System Settings → Sound → Input, then re-check the dropdown. |
| Dropdown only shows `reachymini_audio_src` | The app is running on the robot itself (launched from the dashboard on a Wireless robot). Quit it there and double-click `launch_stage_chat.command` on the computer instead. |
| "configured mic unavailable, using system default" | The wireless mic dropped out. The app keeps running on the Mac's built-in mic and switches back automatically when the mic reconnects. |
| Reachy doesn't answer | Check the status pill: stuck on *thinking* = network/OpenAI issue; *error* = check the OpenAI key on the settings page. |
| Too quiet / distorted | Use the Speaker volume slider (default 200%; lower it if it distorts). |
| Robot answers itself / feedback | Shouldn't happen (mic is gated during playback) — if it does, move the presenter mic further from the speaker. |

**Panic button:** close the terminal window and double-click the launcher
again. Settings (mic choice, push-to-talk) are remembered.
